Been a week since my last post and a lot of things have happened.
For one thing, my visitor count has shot sharply up, crossing the 100 mark, though I still maintain this as an anonymous blog. Got my first comment on the blog too (Courtesy Rizi)
This was another 3 day weekend for Pongal and I had a pretty good time considering I didn’t resort to movies, books or music to entertain myself. Friday was a usual Sunday kinda day with a lotta sleep. Grandma went back to our native place for a coupla months and hence I am sleeping in her bed in the meanwhile, to help ease the pain in my bruised knee(courtesy the ‘in’cident).
For the first time me n JJ actually made a plan that was accepted as a feasible one for the weekend. Usually our plans involve surreal flights of fantasy such as getting permission for all of us to get to goa for the weekend or starting a drama club with self written plays and such extremely simple and easily accomplishable tasks. But this time, we stuck to ground reality and made a plan for us to meet at a friends’ place in the morning, drive down the ECR to Mayajaal for a movie, lunch at the Dhaba and a long-awaited, long-delayed, sojourn at the beach. The plan was for JJ to pick us up starting at 9.30(which was an open invitation for the plan to fail as we hardly wake up before 10 on weekends) and drive down to Mens’ place by 11. we actually ended up starting from JJs place at 11. Still, we were exhilarated with the partially successfully kick off(atleast we all got together at the place and started off).
On the way to Velachery, I was pointing out the several places where in my various accidents had occurred by way of illuminating conversation. This was another o.i for disaster. JJ has this really cool style of braking to a stop, which involves a sudden spurt of speed following by a screeching brake to the wheels. On one part of the Kotturpuram road, there was a roadblock for some tiny uneven patch on the road, and there was a sudden jam near the area. JJ performed her usual style of coming to a halt and the car kissed the bumper of the taxi ahead of us, leaving a hardly perceptible dent on the bumper of the t a o u. the guy got out and started demanding that we pay for the cost of the bumper and we were trying to appear sober and serious about the accident but only managed to not smirk. The guy looked so awfully enraged that we could really not have maintained this posture for long, when an even better thing happened. One of the passengers in the taxi, curious to know what was happening, opened the door to have a better view of the proceedings and a two wheeler came barging into the open door in an attempt to overtake the stationary taxi. We simply burst out laughing at this complication to the minor incident that we’d started off. The 2-wheeler guys would have maintained a truce if the taxi driver had not brazenly attempted to ask them to pay the damage for the door. Now the 2 w gs started demanding recompense for broken bones and delay in courier delivery(bluedart, they were from). The heated argument continued and we were debating about whether to furtively sneak off, but the entertainment kept us there. Then the owner of the taxi and the supervisor from blue dart had another round of h. a and the entertainment just ket getting better. Finally to appreciate the driver’s services to our amusement we offered him 100Rs and left the place with a stitch in our stomach, a relief that it hadn’t been costlier on our pockets.
Then we realized we needed cake and candles and gifts for the 2 people whose birthdays this meeting was in honour of. So spent another hour at odyssey and adyar bakery, fruitlessly, as we finally dint get any gift, and the bakery was out of any decent cakes, we finally decided on 12 pieces of chocolate truffle(awesome stuff!! Had the left over for lunch this afternoon and it was bliss!!). when we reached Mens’ place it was 2 and the movie at Mayajaal started at 2.45. we reached Mayajaal in time but none of the movies seemed inviting and our hunger was simply devouring us, so next stop, ECR dhaba. Sat inside the lorry and had a lunch that lasted for one hour. Nice place and definitely plan to visit there again. Then I drove the car to a beach nearby and we “cut “ the 12 pieces of cake and hogged on it. a coupla stray dogs were attracted to us because of the 12 p o c and we had to sacrifice some of our hard earned cake on those Sirius black like Grims. After about 1 hour at the beach, we went to mens’ house again and had a nice self cooked dinner. Reached home only by 9. What a nice day that was.
Sunday was another momentous day as we went out to lunch as a family after 5 months(ever since grandma came home). Went to the dhaba express and I once again reveled in Lassi which I hereby anoint the nectar of the gods! Some schoolmates of my dad came home in the evening and went out to dinner with them. Love sitting with a group of uncles who are discussing all topics on earth. Was so damn reminiscent of Saudi. Came back home to Orwell’s 1984. Started that ages ago and haven’t found the drive to finish it.
Am back at work today and have had a really long and busy day. Am going home to 1984 again. Life is beautiful.
