Isle Awhile..

Finished reading Orwell's 1984 yesterday. This book has a cult status almost, and has alwas featured among the very best in any rating on popular reads. And, it is worth all the accolades it receives. It has some beautiful theories of dystopia that gave me entirely new perspectives towards how absolute power corrupts absolutely. His idea that war is method of utilising the products being generated by the economy while not adding to the standard of living or amenities of life, was a brilliant take on the issue. Even more than the ethics of the sacredness of human life or the quality of peace and non violence, this is a very pertinent threat of war. Has opened up new vistas of thought on this subject. Also, found the ultimate defeat of the human spirit absolutely the perfect ending for the book though it left me rather horrified about the possibility of this becoming reality sometime in the future.
Coming to lighter matters, having had pretty long 11-hr workdays on Monday and Tuesday, i decided to make better use of Wednesday and the old reliable BCL provided. The show for the evening was Isle Awhile, a collection of songs from Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Deep Purple, Who, Sting, Joe Crocker, Iron Maiden, Procol Harem(hadnt heard of them before this show though.. ) and loads of other superb bands. The band was called Olive Juice and since we hadnt heard of them, i wasnt sure of what to expect from the evening But got there to see almost the Roxygen group assembled in full force and right away we knew it was gonna be a good evening. Keith Peters was there as the bass guitarst and the other bass guitarist whose name i dont remember was that guy who in the Roxygen concert had been absolutely immovable and unsmiling. This time he was far better smiling very beningly on whoever was singing. There were a coupla female singers, a older woman called Anu, who introduced every band by reading out of a sheet, which totally annoyed us all, but nevertheless seemed quite competent stage performer and hence we out up with her. The other female singer was Nandita, who looked like someone modelled on the lines of Ram Gopal Verma heroines, with a classical evil look and a superb voice suited beautifully for those heavy metal, Led Zepplin, Iron Maiden songs. Her best performance was for "Laownely Laownely Laownely Taaime" where she sounded authentically like Plant. There were a coupla male singers too. David, who left early had a nice sweet voice and Arjun, who apparently played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, was damn good too, apart from looking like God :). Timmy of Roxygen also chipped in with some songs and overall they made a great show. But the guy i liked the best was the lead guitarist, who looked like the stereotypical dad and had a really cute embarassed look on his face everythime peoepl appreciated his work on the guitar by bowing to him or cheering for him. He was really sweet. The show went on for 2.5 hrs which was way beyond its schedule and i reached home at 10.45 to find my parents all worreid about my safety, and i cant blame them after all the recent incidents of mine. Still, they dint complain a bit, and I truly love them for this sweet forbearence!
Have had another 11 hr work day today. Got tickets for Saarang's Rock Show on Saturday and told dad that id be going for it. Looking forward to this weekend :)
