Evam Rocks!!

Now that ive made that assertion, its time to validate it.

Evam (which traslates to 'AND') is a highly succesful entertainment company started by a couple of very talented people. In a very short time it has delivered some real quality entertainment to the chennai theatre goers.

This month they are staging a replay of three of their shows, Phython Hysssteria, The odd couple and ART. Having missed their show the previous time as the tickets sold out early, i made it a point to catch it this time around. N it was worth every penny(err rupee) i paid for the show.

Python Hysteria is a showcase of 16 comedy sketches from the Monty Pythons. This has been beautifully adapted by Evam on their show. The sketches were all different and did not have even the remotest feel of repetitiveness. The cast was all quite talented and the stage setting were minimal and functional. The set changes were done in during dance routines by some pretty girls and this was a definitely novel idea to keep the people from getting bored during the frequent changes that needed to be effected on the sets for 16 different sketches.

Now for some scenes that stood out..
The conversation between four men, each of whom tries to portray a bleaker and more destitute picture of their past , exaggerating their tragedy to the extent of making it hilariously impossible.

There is another one with a kid trying to insinuate unspeakable things about a persons wife with questions like "Has she been around eh?? nudge nudge nudge Tee Hee" and "Ur a man of th world eh !!nudge nudge" Turns out the kid hasnt the faintest idea of what he is insinuating. Though this dint keep me in splits like the other ones, this was still one of my favorites coz it struck me with the home truth.. half knowledge is a dangerous(and silly) thing.

Some of the other characters in the play were, a guy trying to return a dead parrot to the shopkeeper and the guy arguing that it was merely resting, or stunned or playing dead.My heart truly bled for another shopkepper who was accosted by a guy who wanted to buy several popular books like "David Coperfield" with a single P , Ranbaby Budge, a cale of two titties!! and several others by edmund hale. There was another short one to point out the vast gulf between a true argument and the more common version of it which should actually be called mindless contradiction.

The last one absolutely rocked!! It was en exchange between michael angelo(played by kathik, one of the founders, wearing a pink shawl draped around him in typical artistic style and looking very cute!) and the Pope(played by sunil the co-founder of evam) regarding the Last Supper painted by Angelo for the Pope. Micheal keeps addressing the holy Pope as Popie in a very sticky sweet accent that totally infuriates the great man. And also it turns out that not only has Micheal painted the Last supper with 28 disciples and 3 christs but he has also added a kangaroo to the group!!The Pope is understandably incensed at this artistic license taken by the painter and orders him for the Last Supper as directed by the Bible. He turns a deaf ear to all of Micheal's suggestions, even the very reasonable one of its being titled the Penultimate Supper in which case there wouldnt be any trouble with the picture as there is no bibilical evidence of who attended it :) !! Was a laugh riot!!
Now i conlcude reiterating my assertion .. evam truly rocks!!
